  • Beware! Hackers Are Spreading Locky Ransomware Using Facebook Messenger

Security researchers have discovered an attack that makes use of your Facebook Messenger to spread Locky malware. In a short period of time, Locky has become one of the favorite ransomware tools of spammers. It usually spreads via spam emails with a disguised downloader.

This attack was first discovered by malware researcher Bart Blaze. Surprisingly, the malware manages to bypass Facebook’s file extension filter.

The hackers are spreading this ransomware using an .SVG image file. So, if you receive one that looks like the one shown ahead, avoid clicking it. I myself got this ransomware in my inbox via a friend.

     How to avoid:

The users are advised to open the Extensions list from Chrome menu and look for the description. Now, simply clicking on the remove button will delete it.

One must change his/her Facebook password and run a deep antivirus scan. You are also requested to share this news with your friends and make them aware.

  • Want To Delete Yourself From The Internet, Use This Website

Sometimes, you feel the need of committing a digital suicide i.e. deleting yourself from the internet. For instance, before shifting to a new place, getting a new job where you don’t want people to know about your past, or you just want to cut off from the internet.

While you’re trying to delete yourself from the internet, you can’t just stop after removing your social media and email accounts. There are a plethora of accounts which you might’ve access during your internet life and don’t even remember their names. These can be various gaming websites or the online forums where you asked those secret questions about your life.

Deseat.me is a simple website that can help you with deleting all such accounts you created. Once you’re on the website, you need to sign-in using your Google account and the website will display a list of all those online accounts which are associated with your Gmail address.

Keep in mind the fact that the website doesn’t equip you with a magic wand so that you can vanish all those accounts by waving your hands. After you’re done filtering the accounts you want to delete, you will have to click the delete option for each of the accounts in the delete queue.

Clicking the delete option will lead you to the deletion page for the respective account where you may have to sign-in to that account in order to delete it. It’s very much possible you don’t remember the password as you didn’t access the account in a while. You can try to reset the password.

The whole process is tiresome but it allows you to delete a big trace of yourself from the internet.

And before you start lashing out at me in the comments. Remember that nothing comes for free, not even digital suicide. It costs you your precious time.

  • Hackers Steal Millions From ATMs Using Malware Which Force Them To Spit Out Cash

Cobalt– a hacking group have found to be behind a series of attacks targeting ATMs in Europe with malicious software that causes the machines to spit out cash. The FBI has warned U.S. banks of the potential for similar ATM jackpotting attacks.

According to Russian cyber security firm Group-IB, the attacks were performed remotely and impacted cash machines in countries such as Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Estonia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Malaysia.

The world’s two largest ATM manufacturers, Diebold Nixdorf and NCR Corp., said they were aware of the ATM attacks and had already been working with their customers to mitigate the threat.

Nicholas Billett, senior director of core software and ATM Security at Diebold Nixdorf, explained: They are taking this to the next level in being able to attack a large number of machines at once. They know they will be caught fairly quickly, so they stage it in such a way that they can get cash from as many ATMs as they can before they get shut down.

All these attacks were launched on European and Asian ATMs from a single remote command center, whose purpose is to trick ATMs into dispensing cash before the banks notice the attacks and block them. It is also found that all attacks are performed at the same time on several targets.

Hacking group Cobalt is believed to be part of a larger organization known as Buhtrapand which is responsible for attacks carried against Russian banks. Over 1.8 Billion rubles ($28 Million) were stolen by these hackers from Russian banks between August 2015 and January 2016.
